Our work for the ostracized and marginalized women in Kolkata, India
We have set up a permanent space in Kalighat where it would provide a safe space and let us conduct regular coaching classes for assisting children of sex workers with their schoolwork, as well as conduct regular telemedicine sessions among other things
Healthcare
After conducting several medical camps in 2022, and organizing blood tests, providing thermometers and medicines during a severe outbreak of Malaria and Dengue in the community, Krishnaa Foundation has now set up a permanent medical clinic in the area.
Krishnaa Foundation has partnered with DocOnline to provide regular medical consultations and treatments via telemedicine.
Education Drive
In 2021 and 2022, Krishnaa Foundation provided educational help to the children of the sex-workers by providing notebooks, pencils and books.
From June of 2023, Krishnaa Foundation has hired teachers to conduct daily tutorial classes for the elementary and middle school students there. Besides homework help and providing help in understanding schoolwork, the teachers also conduct art classes. We intend to expand these activities in the future.
Food Drive
From late 2020 through mid-2022, Krishnaa Foundation provided about 250 sex-workers in Kalighat and their families a monthly supply of food rations and other necessities for basic health.
This was during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the sex-workers and their children were literally starving. At times when fuel was scarce, cooked food was also provided.
