We need your help to provide food, shelter, health, and hygiene to the sex workers and their children in Kalighat, Kolkata (India)
Supporting sex workers and their children
The Covid-19 pandemic led to a significant loss of earnings for sex workers in India. This, in turn, further worsened their and their children's lack of access to food, shelter, healthcare, and education in the country. Krishnaa Foundation, a collective run and supported by members of the Indian diaspora in New Jersey, is attempting to support sex workers of Kalighat, Kolkata, and their children in accessing their basic rights.
So far Krishnaa Foundation has:
Conducted health services and medical camps in 2022
Stood by these women & children during the dark days of the pandemic and have continued to help in times of crises, such as the recent Malaria and Dengue epidemic in August-October 2022
Conducted regular food drives for the sex-worker community in Kalighat between October 2020 to March 2022.
Recent Achievements:
Set up a permanent space in Kalighat where it would provide a safe space and let us conduct regular coaching classes for assisting children of sex workers with their schoolwork, as well as conduct regular telemedicine sessions among other things
